The Total Cost of Your Therapy Website In Private Practice

I often get asked how much a website costs and if it's worth having one. Of course, the benefits need to outweigh the costs. And as a business owner, you want to ensure that you invest your money well.
Here is a quick summary of why I believe a website is crucial for your Private Practice:
Establishes Credibility and Professionalism
Increases Visibility and Reach
Provides Key Information for Clients
Allows You to Share Resources and Expertise
Creates Convenience for Booking and Communication
Now, let's look at the cost. One of my values is to provide complete transparency to my clients regarding what costs are included in my pricing, and other costs they need to consider while running a website. These costs occur whether you build a website yourself or hire a web designer or agency to build a website for you.
Website Design & Development
Although this might be the largest expense when creating a website, hiring a professional is worthwhile to save time and achieve a website that looks professional, is user-friendly, and is optimised for search engines and mobile devices.
Below is a summary of the various options you might encounter during your research:
Freelance Designers: £500–£1,500
This is a typical range for smaller, less complex projects.
May include basic features like mobile responsiveness, SEO setup, and a contact form.
It's worth knowing that Your Therapy Website offers websites from just £395.
Mid-tier agencies: £1,500–£4,000
Agencies often provide a more refined design, custom elements, branding, and additional services like copywriting.
Premium range: £4,000+
This includes highly bespoke designs, advanced features, extensive branding, and ongoing support.
Website Hosting
Your website needs to "live" somewhere. Website hosting is a service that allows individuals and businesses to publish their websites on the internet. This can cost between £50–£200/year (often included in platforms like Wix or Squarespace).
The current Wix premium packages start from £9/month and include the hosting of your website and other features.
Domain Cost
Depending on your domain name (i.e., www.yourtherapywebsite.co.uk), this usually costs around £10-20 per year. Oftentimes, therapists choose to buy an email domain with it (i.e., laura@yourtherapywebsite.co.uk) for a more professional feel. But this is not always required, since there are many free email providers available.
Other costs to consider:
Content writing: If creating your own website content is challenging, many freelancers, including myself, offer this as an individual service.
Professional photographs: Hiring a photographer for your images may increase costs, but it's not always necessary. Most of my clients opt for a photo taken by a friend or family member.
Maintenance & changes: Although platforms like Wix handle website maintenance costs, most designers charge for updates or changes, such as content updates, new features, or image changes. I provide this service separately and will always discuss the cost with you in advance.
Booking systems or SEO packages can add £100–£500 or more.
